Restricting child benefit

Gerry Moore (letters Saturday Oct 13th), when making an assertion that “perhaps it’s time to restrict the number of children per family for whom benefit is paid, based on the needs of the society”, might set out exactly how this reconciles with his later assertion that resources must be centred on the children and not their parents.

Restricting child benefit

Surely to deny children with older siblings access to the same resources as every other child in the state would have the opposite effect to the one which he claims to favour, that we need children “educated, civilised and unembittered by poverty”.

Gerry would be better educating himself as to the dangers of this kind of thinking,, before attempting to advise others on how to effect the best education for their children. All children are equal, regardless of their parents' choices.
