Paddy Power jobs - Building confidence

Baseless optimism is little more than wishful thinking but amidst a seemingly endless deluge of dispiriting economic data any good news is more than welcome.

Earlier this week Kerry Foods announced a new and very welcome project in Kildare that will create nearly 1,000 jobs.

Yesterday that good news was augmented when bookmaker Paddy Power announced the business is to create 610 jobs in Dublin to support the company’s international online expansion.

Amazingly, the good news did not end there as something approaching 500 priceless jobs were on offer to students at the University of Limerick yesterday as 124 companies went headhunting on campus.

However, the most reassuring thing was that Paddy Power CEO Patrick Kennedy was able to say that: “We’ve built a position of what we think is global leadership in tomorrow’s technology ... ”

That cannot but augur well and even in these difficult times offer a considerable degree of encouragement.
