Defence of US ship visits is criticised

Anthony Leavy’s reply to Jim Roche’s complaint, was a most bizarre defence of allowing US military vessels into Irish ports. Mr Leavy says we owe our freedom to the likes of the US Government who “took on fascism and communism”.

For the fall of fascism, we owe a great debt to the Soviet people who gave their lives to fight against fascism (over 20,000,000), while the US sat for two years not wanting to get involved.

For the fall of communism, Mr Leavy should ask the peaceful loving people of Chile who voted for a Marxist government and leader and then a US-backed coup stopped it.
