Setting facts straight on inter-city bus services

Given the large number of inaccuracies in his short letter on CIE financing (Sep 4) it would appear that Gerry Mullins, CEO of the Coach Tourism and Transport Council, either does not understand how the inter-city coach market works, or was trying to mislead your readers.

These are the facts: Bus Éireann does not receive any State funding for the operation of its commercial inter-city services.

As reported on several occasions in the national media over the last month, Bus Éireann will not be receiving any of the €36m in supplementary funding recently announced for CIE.
