Kenny took salary cut

Desmond FitzGerald (Aug 18) says that Mr Kenny’s first act as Taoiseach “was to double his salary and that of everyone he appointed to government”.

Kenny took salary cut

This is untrue. Mr Kenny’s first act was to cut his own salary by €15,000 to €200,000 per annum. This is a full €110,000 less than what was paid to ex-Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

Mr Fitzgerald also attacks the former Minister for Justice Nora Owen for her “obscene taxpayer-funded pension”. Ms. Owen is 67 years of age and is entitled to a pension of €73,000. How does this compare with the former Fianna Fáil ministers Noel Dempsey and Dermot Ahern, both young men in their 50s, who are entitled to pensions of around €110,000?I take it that Mr FitzGerald sees no problem with these pensions?
