Regarding Martin Owens’ letter (Aug 10) to the effect that Michell Smith DeBrun was our greatest Olympian.

Mr Owens points out that she never failed a drug test. Technically true, but US runner Marion Jones was tested about 160 times and never once failed but, before a Senate committee, she admitted she had been on drugs for years.
