Greatest Olympian

I must add my voice to that of Martin Owens (Letters, Aug 10) regarding the achievements of Ireland’s Olympic multi-gold medallist, Michelle Smith de Bruin.

She has always been, in my opinion, Ireland’s greatest ever Olympian. Sadly, like countless other great Irish people, she became the subject of classic, sustained and brutal Irish begrudgery, in addition to classic Paddywhackery and jealousy from abroad.
