What a year for our athletes ... and Crosshaven

I take my hat off to a wonderful new generation of brilliant young Irish, who represent us so gallantly at the London Olympics.

What a year for our athletes ... and Crosshaven

Emerging from such a small country in mostly minority sports such as sailing and boxing, for me it’s been an emotional rollercoaster.

I live in the small, charming village of Crosshaven on Cork harbour, which is honoured by yet another Olympian, Peter O’Leary following in the footsteps of such luminaries as Somers Pain, Harold Cudmore and Mark Mansfield in previous games.

This year’s spectacular Volvo Ocean Race in Galway marked the unique achievement of Crosshaven-born yacht builder, Killian Bush, who has built all four successive winners of the Volvo Ocean Round the World marathon.

What a year for Ireland and the small village of Crosshaven. The future looks bright.
