Champion Steve does Ireland proud

Irishman Steve Redmond, 47, became the first person in the world on Jul 14 to do the Oceans 7, modelled on the Seven Summits — climbing the highest mountain on each continent. He swam all 7 toughest channels of the world’s oceans from 2009 and it took 3 years to complete.

Champion Steve does Ireland proud

He was ably supported for the Japanese swim by his good friend Noel Browne and support crew. His training included long and record making swims around the great Fastnet Rock off Co. Cork.

His ‘Oceans 7’ cost an average of €10,000 per swim, coming to a total of €100,00. He had huge support and sponsorship from the West County Cork Ballydehob community where he lives, and is originally from Castledermot, Co. Kildare. He is not finished, hoping to do mega swims to fundraise for a local charity.
