Crumbs for Ireland

Crumbs for Ireland

Does anyone in Ireland think for a minute the Troika, and especially the ECB, would have even considered Ireland’s desperate situation if it werenot for Spain and Italy experiencing serious difficulties, which could, because of their size, bring the whole European financial structure crashing down around our ears?

In the overall European context, as a relatively small open peripheral economy, we really have little or no clout, and for the Taoiseach to suggest what happened early Friday morning last, at the meeting of the heads of governments, was a seismic change for Ireland, when, basically, we were being thrown a few ‘crumbs’, is an insult to our intelligence.
