Listening to the Business Programme on RTÉ Radio (Jun 2) presented by George Lee, I was very surprised to hear George asking American Ambassador Rooney what economic advance he would give the Government.

Why we don’t need advice from US

Surely, as an economist himself, George should have been aware that the US is now the largest debtor nation in world history, owing billions of dollars, and is not in any position to advise anybody.

In contrast, after the Second World War the US was the richest nation on earth, thanks to not being either invaded or bombed, and its factories being able to mass produce goods and weapons unhindered.
