Your columnist and austerity treaty proponent Fergus Finlay attacked Sinn Féin (May 1) for highlighting the fact that alternative sources of funding will be available to Ireland should its citizens reject the treaty, particularly for its claim that the IMF will be one such source.

He then argues that the IMF has never given assistance to any EU member on its own in the past. Has Mr Finlay conveniently forgotten about the dig-out the IMF gave to our UK neighbours in the 1970s?

Does he take us all for fools, and is he prepared to risk his own reputation by joining his colleagues in Labour and FG by trying to turn a warning into a promise as it now seems the only way the troika of FG/FF&Lab can win this is to frighten the bejaysus into people to vote yes?
