Rental option will cost consumers dearly
Maybe they have looked at previous examples of this, like the very profitable phone equipment rental scheme that Telecom Eireann imposed on their customers for years.
This was in effect a standing charge added to every bill to recoup the cost of providing the customer with a basic analogue phone.
These phones can’t have cost a lot to purchase first day and with customers paying for them over decades it was a good profitable business.
So maybe it is believable that this Government are considering doing the same for water meters.
Why ask us to buy the meters when they can rent them to us for the next 50 years?
