Hungarian days

With reference to the information published in your newspaper (Apr 4) in the Time Warp section, I wish to inform you that there are three national days of Hungary: March 15 (commemorating the revolution of 1848), August 20 (commemorating St. Stephen, our first king), and Oct 3 (in memory of the revolution of 1956).

Hungarian days

Apr 4 used to be a national day (commemorating the “liberation” of Hungary by the Soviet troops in 1945) until the fall of communism in 1990, but it was dropped that year because it was perceived as a symbol of Soviet and communist rule over Hungary between 1948-1989.
