Clearing vote hurdle

Twenty-five of the 27 euro countries have signed up to the Fiscal Compact Treaty, with Ireland subject to a Referendum.

The EU president and Commission expressed the view that the two countries which have thus far not signed might sign at some point. The same can be said for Ireland in the event that we reject the treaty at the first hurdle. The Government’s take, that we will have one chance only and that there will be no second referendum, must be seen for what it is worth, either an attempt to browbeat Sean Citizen, or clever tactics by An Taoiseach in the face of EU and ECB intransigence. Make up your own mind but do vote.
