Best practice systems are tightly enforced at our fish farms

Since taking office I have strongly supported the development of aquaculture, but also insisted that all efforts are enforced for the protection of the environment. Ireland has rigorous systems in place in consultation with the European Commission and we ensure that our best practice systems are rigorously enforced.

Applications for aquaculture licences are considered under the 1997 Fisheries (Amendment) Act, the provisions of which are implemented robustly by the State. Licences issued contain specific terms and conditions which must be fully adhered to.
