Expanding role

There seems little point in giving priority to closing down the Vatican embassy at the Villa Spada, re-designating these premises as the Embassy to Italy, spending €1m on “refurbishment”, and then handing the whole thing over to the EU.

Can this happen?

Under Lisbon II, which we’ve agreed to, it can, and it will.

The first step has already been taken: Catherine Ashton was appointed in 2009 as foreign minister for the EU.

The consequences are fully intended to follow.
