Parking controls needed

The report of councils losing money on parking fees puts paid to the myth that they are just a means of “milking the motorist”.

Parking controls needed

Someone has to enforce parking controls, otherwise there will be chaos. They need to be paid, and the money should come from parking charges. Many towns and villages are gridlocked as motorists double park, manoeuvre and hang around, blocking traffic. Irish people need to grow up and realise they have too many cars to allow them to park anywhere for free.

We should learn from other European countries with extensive pedestrianised areas, with outdoor cafés, seating, space where people can enjoy themselves and with space for markets.

Instead we have narrow squalid pavements blocked with parked cars. This is no way to attract tourists. Trying to cater for people who are too lazy to walk a few feet with free parking makes things worse for everyone.
