Standing up to tyranny?

The controversy over the closure of the Vatican embassy reminds me of the behaviour of some Italians following the death of Mussolini.

Standing up to tyranny?

After his death, the dictator’s body was hung from a lamp-post and brave citizens queued up to kick, punch and spit on his corpse. Last year, Enda Kenny launched a blistering attack on the Vatican. Eamonn Gilmore closes down the Vatican embassy to prove his anti-Catholic credentials. Two hard men trying to prove how tough they are by kicking the corpse of a once-powerful tyranny. If anybody thinks this shows the Government has the courage to stand up to unelected tyrannies, they will be disappointed. Environment Minister Phil Hogan is in the process of corrupting our democracy in an act of obedience to the new tyranny that has replaced the Church.
