Give up some work for the good of the nation

The letter in your paper last week (Jan 17), which makes the case for introducing a 4.5-day week to overcome what seems to be ever increasing unemployment, was like a breath of fresh air, after all the doom and gloom we are always hearing.

Give up some work for the good of the nation

I have no employment. I wouldn’t have time for a job. I am the principal carer for my mother, who needs 24/7 assistance.

My income is barely enough, but I would be delighted to surrender 10% of this if I had 10% less work. I hope those people who have a job will count their blessings and be willing to give up 10% of their work for the good of the nation.
