Probe this regeneration debacle
Because of this I am calling on the media to seek answers to all of the questions below, because the Regeneration Agency, among others, persists in hiding behind the percentage of anti-social and criminal activists in these communities to justify their behaviour in the communities and compound people’s legitimate fear that they are being, and will continue to be, left bereft yet again.
It was bad enough that people were afraid to speak out before Regeneration, but now they’re terrified to tell the truth of their existence because their houses will be bulldozed and they’ll be left on the side of the streets.
I am calling for a full-scale media enquiry with public answers from those with civic responsibility to get real answers to the questions below — and without allowing anyone involved to blame aforementioned anarchists.
Everyone accepts that the anarchists exist, so this should be set aside, as a given, so that the focus of this enquiry is not contaminated.
With the amalgamation of Limerick city and county councils looming, and the competition for funding that will ensue, I am appealing to you not to allow the people to suffer even further. The country has been led to believe that they have all gotten brand-new free houses. Even people in other parts of Limerick believe this. I implore you, the media, to give this the same amount of attention that you have given to the percentage of anarchists down through the years.
The pretend Celtic Tiger didn’t even meow in the direction of the majority of these people, while political leaders argued details, they just quietly got on with their moderate spending and living.
Now they find themselves further and further behind. Please help now, before it really is too late. We cannot trust the politicians to investigate themselves, we’ve all seen what happens as a result.
Remember the words of Martin Luther King, Jr: “Law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice and when they fail in this purpose they become the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social progress.”
This is particularly true when corruption and immorality exists, unchecked and free-flowing in organisations of civic and social responsibility.
