Pensioner tax confusion

THE confusion about the pensioners’ tax letters is exemplified by Kieran McCarthy (Letters, Jan 13).

Michael Noonan didn’t mention it in his budget speech because no change was made — the people involved were supposed to be paying this all along. The only thing that seems unfair is that the tax, which the pensioners should have paid in previous years, is not going to be sought in many cases.
