Two-faced politics

AT THE start of 2011 and in the run-up to the general election, Fine Gael TD Jerry Buttimer for Cork South Central assured me that we would not have property taxes and even pointed to the Fine Gael manifesto that stated we would have water tax and not property tax.

By the end of 2011 we have the prelude to property tax — the household charge.

Environment Minister Phil Hogan made the point that it is wrong for members of the Dáil not to pay the €100 household charge.
