The right wing

JC HENLY fears the “right wing politicians” Merkel and Sarkozy, and their intended “domination” of Europe.

(Letters, 9th Dec) I would point out that these are more properly described as centralist.

The Euro-sceptic Margaret Thatcher and the Euro-sceptic wing of the Tory party is right wing. Declan Ganley was so labelled for his opposition to the Lisbon treaty.

If JC Henly fears the centralisation of power in Europe, he could do worse than embrace his/her own inner right wing. Statists are generally left wing.
