Ministers fiddled as Irish economy burned

THE RTÉ documentary, Crisis: Inside the Cowen Government, contained almost nothing new and appeared to be an attempt by the regurgitated “whiter than white” Fianna Fáil surviving clique, to find one suitable scapegoat for Fianna Fáil’s reckless destruction of the Irish economy, while exonerating most of the other FF ministers from collegial cabinet responsibility.

Willie O’Dea, Mícheál Martin and Mary Hanafin performed an almost perfect three monkeys routine, each claiming that at 2.30am on the morning of 30 September 2008, they saw nothing, heard nothing and spoke nothing, and were conned into agreeing to the atrocious bank guarantee scheme by the Terrible Brian Twins. By exposing these three monkeys, the documentary did some service for those with eyes to see, ears to hear with, and a brain to think with. And the Green cabinet ministers fiddled as the Irish economy burned.
