Gender quota debacle

IN another attempt to justify gender quotas in politics, A Leavy (November 7) says: “Surely the system has excluded hundreds of excellent female candidates in order to include many male candidates of lesser ability”.

I would up his hundreds and say thousands of excellent male and female candidates could have entered politics with a different system. However, gender quotas don’t change the system.

All they ensure is that some candidates will be advantaged, and others disadvantaged, solely because of their gender.
