Unfit to lead a country bound by laws

PRESIDENTIAL candidate Martin McGuinness has made a number of disquieting remarks during his campaign.

Unfit to lead a country bound by laws

He has most recently said on the RTÉ Six One news series for presidential candidates that he will be the most outspoken president in the history of the state if he is elected president. This statement is the clearest indication that the office of president will be a political platform for Martin McGuinness’s hard-line views.

He clearly stated that he did not recognise the defence forces of the Irish Government, but “recognised another army”, not mentioned in the Constitution and even suggested that members of the “Garda Síochána supported him in that view”. This will mean that Mr Guinness, if elected, will not participate in a guard of honour of the defence forces because he is sworn to another armed force that plays by its own rules. Any thought of this man acting in an appropriate way as head of state is ludicrous and dangerous. The man in question is totally unfit to lead a country bound by laws and should be dismissed outright.
