Theft not donation

YOUR newspaper reports on the family of a woman who died from the failure of a transplanted liver calling for an “opt-out donor card system”.

To take the property of someone else (and what could be more personal than one’s organs) without permission is theft.

The fact that they are in no position to prevent it only makes it worse, and it is deceitful to refer to it as donation. It is obviously impossible to prove that a person was unwilling to donate; people may be unaware of the system, they may be not register, or records may be lost or destroyed.
