Restoring fairness to presidential debate

FERGUS Finlay’s article “Media hounding of candidates in presidential campaign must stop” (Opinion, Oct 11), is, perhaps, the finest article written so far in this entire campaign.

It is generous to a fault and magnificent in its construction. For a Labour Party candidate who sought the nomination for this contest some months ago to write “I’ve known Mary (Davis) and her husband Julian for a long time now, and there are very few people in the world, if any, I regard more highly“, is indeed a most gracious statement.

Thank you, Mr Finlay, for restoring balance and fairness to the entire debate. If you seek the nomination in seven years’ time, and in the aftermath of your superb feature in the Examiner, you have my vote in the bag.
