FINE GAEL presidential candidate Gay Mitchell must believe we all have a short memory span because he was very explicit in his reference to the electorate who voted ‘No’ in overwhelming numbers after the first Lisbon Treaty in 2008.

He then questioned whether the Irish people should ever again be asked to adjudicate on complex European issues. Does he still hold that derogatory view?

He also said he would like to see the British monarch play a more active role in Ireland, which he didn’t fully explain.
