Overhaul the Dáil

IF it is necessary to make adjustments to our constitution to enable a radical overhaul of the size of our Government and the number of TDs, senators and quangos, surely we should be making preparations by including the necessary provisions in a referendum.

Overhaul the Dáil

Our Dáil is overstaffed because it takes far less voters for a candidate to win a seat in our Dáil than in any other EU country.

The total electorate of Ireland divided between the 166 TDs only averages about 20,000 per TD.

Across Europe the average is 65,000 and their MPs are paid less than ours.

Is the quality of our TDs so poor that we need three of them to do what one can do in other countries?
