Comments praised

I WISH to applaud your recent editorial and comment — you have hit the nail on the head in relation to ‘a society divided’.

When one then adds the costs of the hundreds of quangos, parachute payments for failed politicians, massive pensions for retired politicians, not to mind the various expenses received by same, only then can the true scope of a divided society be understood.

During World War II the ordinary Germans used to call Nazi party members ‘Golden Pheasants’ (Goldfasanne) as they openly fed from the public purse to the detriment of society. Much of the same is happening in Ireland and, indeed, has been for the last 20 years or so. I have no desire to experience an Irish spring some time in the future.
