Return to gold standard

SPACE does not permit me to respond adequately to Ivan Yates (Opinion, August 25), but from my perspective, for the dollar, the pound and the euro to “survive”, it will be necessary for all Western nations to return to the gold standard.

In five years observing and listening to economists, politicians, academicians, and media pundits, I have not heard anyone raise this issue.

It is time that a discussion on returning to the gold standard begins. It is almost too late to remedy our present economic crisis until such time as paper and coin money is supported by precious metals.
