New carrier needed

WE shouldn’t be surprised by Ryanair’s commercial decision to axe the Dublin air connection.

They managed to drive away any competition years ago by their ruthless below-cost pricing.

And while there is some relief to be free from their pleasureless flying experience, the often incoherent cabin staff and the in-flight hawking of every kind of knick-knack, the question remains: whither Cork airport?

There will, by the end of October next, be no way to make an early Monday connection to European cities such as Paris, nor any way to make a sensible air connection to the US.

Action to provide an alternative carrier to Dublin is needed urgently.
