We need someone with Thatcher’s resolve

WHEN will people stop blaming Margaret Thatcher for all the ills of the world?

Those rioting thugs in England are the children of Blair and New Labour, most grew up, or were born, during the Blair years, and are the result of the decline in parental control, the lack of discipline and educational standards in the schools and the complete absence of moral parameters in the society that spawns them.

Thatcher is now regarded as having been one of the best post-war leaders of Britain. She cured the “sick man of Europe” and gave Britain back her pride. She took on the powerful trade unions that were holding the country to ransom and won; and side by side with Ronald Reagan, presided over the dismantling of the Iron Curtain in Europe and the ending of the Cold War.

In fact, Ireland could well do with someone of her calibre at this moment in time — to stand up to Germany and France — instead of the present supine apologists for a Government who seem content to have turned Ireland into the doormat of Europe!

Where is the old spirit of the Republic? Come to think of it, where is the Republic?

After barely 80 years, we’ve been sold to Europe for 30 pieces of silver.
