GAY Byrne seems acceptable to some people as President, on the basis that he is not a politician and thus is deemed not to be part of the old Ireland that failed.

Really? Was he really non-political? Do I not recall his using his morning radio slot to campaign against the Rainbow government’s attempt to put curbs on party funding and against the imposition of a property tax?

With every passing day, we are suffering more and more because those measures were shouted down. Everyone agrees with these now, but the damage is already done. Developers shovelled money at FF when they returned to power and the bubble was born.
