NOEL Hickey’s letter (August 6) may have stirred memories in many people. Mr Hickey was referring to events at Carrignavar.

However, this may bring back memories of events at other schools.

North Mon, in my day, had a staff member very interested in hurling. He did not direct his temper at those pupils who made the team but to unfortunate pupils who did not. I stood up to him but many others could not. He used to utter a phrase: “My mother wanted me to become a priest. I compromised by becoming a brother, and you sons of bitches are going to pay for it.”
