Banking charges - Oppose higher fees

WE are warned today about the possibility of an increase in banking charges.

We are reminded too that a number of pre-crisis bank directors remain in place.

It is a growing scandal that the State has not initiated court actions against those mired in the banking recklessness that brought this country to its knees.

The recent statement from the Financial Regulator, that it may be a year before any action can be considered, rubs salt into an already deep wound. These timescales mark us down as a dysfunctional society.

Regarding charges, consumer interest groups have warned account holders to be vigilant and alert for any rise in charges. Government has a role to play too.

As the owners of the banks, they must oppose increases unless they are absolutely necessary.
