You can help ease crisis in Africa

ALMOST THREE million people are now in food crisis due to drought in the Horn of Africa.

Yesterday, the UN officially declared that there is a famine in parts of Somalia — the first time in over 25 years this has happened. Last week, in response to the worsening situation, the Irish Government announced additional aid of €1m. This brought to €5.6m the total amount Ireland has given to the region since the start of the year.

Although there is has been continuous talk of hardship and recession afflicting the Irish population since 2008, nevertheless we chose to spend €318m on bottled water in 2010.
