We must give more aid to help Africa
To see these people on our TV screens, frail and weak and carrying their babies and walking for miles on end to get to food distribution centres is truly heartbreaking.
Now is not the time for reprehensions concerning the political system in that country. Rather, Ireland, despite our present woes, must increase the amount of aid we’re giving these people right now. Tomorrow will be too late.
Considering that we give about 700 million in overseas development aid annually, can we not give a 100m of this in food aid immediately to the Somali people?
Remember they say that what you give comes back double.
Finally, I say, God bless all the volunteers of the different aid organisations in such countries. They deserve a special place in all our hearts and eventually in the highest heavens.
