Scanners in Ireland

I READ with interest your editorial (June 27) on the PET-CT scanner in Cork University Hospital.

There are in fact eight PET-CT scanners on the island of Ireland, four in Dublin, one in Galway, one in Waterford, one in Belfast and the unit in Cork.

The Cork scanner and the scanner in St James’ Hospital are the only two which are fully funded by the taxpayer.
