I AGREE with Richard Powers (Letters, June 22) that Pat Cox should be the next president of this country.

He is an ex-MEP and president of the European Parliament, where he was an outstanding success. He is well placed to act as facilitator with the ECB, Germany and France. I have no doubt that he will be a credit to the Irish Republic.
