Why I’m not answering Noonan’s call to spend

Minister for Finance wants me to start spending in order to boost the economy.

THE I would like to respond to him through your hallowed pages. I am not spending, Michael Noonan, because I don’t believe politicians any more, and do not believe we have politicians capable of saving this economy.

I do not believe Ireland’s bailout will work (neither did I think like many other ordinary Joes, that the twin gambles of government bank guarantee/Nama had any chance of succeeding). I am not spending because as a nation we are sinking week on week in a quagmire of indebtedness.

Finally, I am not spending because my future in this godforsaken country is one of paying more taxes, paying higher bank interest rates while our politicians local and national dance and prance, enjoying their time in the limelight.
