Varadkar’s victory

AS Leo Varadkar “cannot do anything” about “legitimate” pay rises for state company CEOs, one wonders why we need ministers at all.

It is, therefore, just as well that ministerial feelings have the power to make Declan Collier feel guilty; what a generous soul he is, turning down €106,000.

Varadkar’s small victory in this instance is some redemption for a party which has become synonymous with numerous U-turns in its first dew months.

Unlike some of his political contemporaries, Varadkar at least stays in Dublin to serve the constituents who voted for him.
