Scrappage scheme should be extended

CAN the Government please extend the scrappage scheme for old cars when buying a new one and make it a permanent and ongoing facility to the public.

The scheme does not need to abandoned altogether, but the public would accept a reduction in the amount paid to a dealership in these challenging times. The current amount is €1,250 down from €1,500 for a vehicle 10 years old or more.

Perhaps the government could reduce this sum to around €1,000 to make it more affordable for the taxpayer and vary it with notice as the economic situation demands.
