HUGH SHEEHY declares an initiative to try to increase the proportion of women in the Dáil as “a measure that betrays the faith people like him put in egalitarian ideas” (June 8).

He then asks the question: “Should I gang together with other men just to protect my interests?” Is having a Dáil that is 85% men egalitarian? If the proportion of men is reduced from that 85% does that endanger men’s interests?
