Take a closer look at pension schemes

IN a letter to your paper (May 21) from Mary Harris you gave the headline “Pension Levy is morally wrong”.
Take a closer look at pension schemes

In last Friday’s edition (May 27) Colm Rapple’s article is headed ” Controversial pension levy not nearly as taxing as feared”.

Having read both contributions I can understand the logic in Ms Harris’s contribution.

On the assumption that her ratio of pension fund to pension of 15 to 1 is correct, the levy will result in a 9% deduction, on pensions in payment, annually for the next four years.

As I cannot understand Mr Rapple’s reasoning, I would suggest that he revisits the matter again. It is vitally important that members of pension schemes take a critical look at the implications of the levy and ensure that their trustees and administrators are instructed to test its legitimacy through the courts.
