Quango quagmire

YOUR correspondent Conor Ryan should get the award for the best researched and timely article so far this year.

Quango quagmire

Mr Ryan’s article covering quangos in Ireland was first class. Hopefully, it will result in the elimination of a significant number of these quangos. My brief research on the 356 quangos existing in Ireland over a year ago showed to me that two-thirds could be eliminated entirely. From a personal point of view — over the past five years I have dealt with five quangos in Ireland — every one of them I found to be inefficient, lacked knowledge in their area of so-called expertise and issued positions and statements that were not only illogical but glaringly false. One man’s experience with quangos in Ireland.
