JOHN MALLON asks where the “undertakings” and “safeguards” contained in the Lisbon Treaty on our corporation tax rate have gone (March 17).

Safeguards in place

The simple answer is that these safeguards are still firmly in place and, as we have seen they were used to great effect by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Brussels this week. Against French and German counterparts, he bluntly told them that under the Lisbon Treaty the Irish corporation tax rate cannot be changed unless we choose to change it.
