WILLIAM MONGEY declares the fact that a female candidate expected “solidarity from another female candidate” in the election to be “sexism” (March 2).

The fact is that membership of the Dáil has been nearly 90% male and is not about to change much as a result of the election.

This is a major issue, not just for women, but for society at large.
